Day 1: Arrival and pick up at Nairobi

You will be picked up at the hotel by a private Kenya guide ready for your 12- day expedition to explore Maasai Mara National Reserve wonders and Kilimanjaro Mountain in Tanzania. The local expert will first take you through what this combined Kenya and Tanzania trip is all about, then you connect up to the hotel for relaxation.

Day 2: Nairobi to Maasai Mara with afternoon game drive

Drive from Nairobi capital in a full time 4×4 drive vehicle, driving via the rift valley impacted area to Narok County, Southwestern Uganda. Driving time to Masai Mara takes 6 hours and you will check in at your pre-booked camp/lodge. Masai Mara National Reserve shelters a huge profusion of world’s most sought for wildlife including all the big 5 game, wildebeest, Masai giraffes, impalas, zebras, crocodiles, hippos, and gazelles.

Arrive early and have ample time relaxing at the camp till 3pm when you will set off for a guided game drive. The afternoon game drive is all about searching for the reserve’s animal species including the big five –elephants, leopards, lions, buffaloes and rhinos.

Day 3: Full day with Masai Mara big game & wildebeests

Start your Masai Mara safari tour after breakfast and today, you will have a combination of morning and afternoon guided wildlife/game drive with experienced local experts. The long day game viewing excursion involves spotting wildlife species such as buffaloes, elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos and most importantly watches the Great Migration.

The wildebeest migration –the world’s spectacle is excellently experienced from July to October with key area of interest being the Mara River crossing.

Day 4: Pick up & fly to Amboseli airport to Kilimanjaro

After the morning breakfast, you will be picked up and transferred to Masai Mara airstrip/airport to catch up with flight to Amboseli airstrip. From Amboseli airstrip to Kilimanjaro / Moshi and connect to your hotel facility for relaxation.

Day 5: Transfer to Marangu gate, hike to Mandara Hut (2715m)

Wake up strong and ready for your adventure to the Kilimanjaro peak. Set off to Marangu gate to meet the officials for briefing and this will at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro. From here, you will also have porters to hire to assist with heavy load and start your adventure at 1860 to 2715m –Mandara Hut.

Day 6: Mandara Hut to Horombo (3705m)

Leave Mandara Hut for Horombo Hut navigating via moorland and moorland. Take a short trek up the rim of the Maundi Crater where you will enjoy the spectacular Kibo Crater. At this point, you can in position to enjoy the scenic Kibo at a distance and its glaciers –on a clear day.

While in the open moorland, stand a chance to view the finest part of Kilimanjaro floral species, especially the giant lobelia rising up to height of 3m. After a rewarding 6 hour walk, arrive at Horombo Hut for relaxation.

Day 7: Horombo Hut & Acclimatization

Perched on a plateau is Horombo Hut 3705m and a renowned area where you most hikers/climbers plus guides and porters gather. Ascending and descending climbers often converge around this place. This day will be used for acclimatization, trek towards the Mawenzi Hut navigating through the Zebra Rocks approximately 3 hours upwards and sloping about 1-2 hours.

Day 8: Depart Horombo Hut for Kibo Hut

Enjoy your breakfast and proceed on a guided hike passing via the Alpine desert habitat. At Horombo, there exist 2 interesting trails leading up to Saddle that is the upper path and lower route. Take the upper route thanks to its rewarding experience as you conquer the stony and eroded areas.

The lower path is slightly easier and takes short hours to conquer taking you via the watering point at 4130m. The Kibo hut on the other hand lies right in the barren Alpine desert, and accommodates up to 60 hikers.

Day 9: Ascend to Uhuru Peak & descend back to Horombo 3705m

Leave Kibo hut for 7-8 hour hike with an experienced guide and ensure that you are strong enough to conquer the tough terrain. The first trek takes you through rocky path up to the Hans Meyer Cave 5150m where you can have brief relaxation. Go up to Gillman’s Point 5681m found on the Crater rim, very steep site and from Gillman, continue to Uhuru peak (5895m). Begin descending to Horombo hut at 3705m where to enjoy a relaxed stay.

Day 10: Horombo to Marangu gate

Continue with your descent from Horombo hut to Marangu gate, 6 hours. Arrive at Marangu gate early and be awarded summit certificates. The green certificates are awarded to hikers who conquered the Gillman’s Point 5685m and gold certificates are awarded to climbers who went up to 5895m. From the park gate, proceed to the hotel in Arusha or Moshi.

Day 11: Arusha city tour

Arise early in the morning and start your day with Arusha city tour. Explore the beautiful Arusha city right and areas of interest include Maasai market, Arusha declaration monument, central market, and more. Have a leisurely lunch and later, continue to the central heritage centre or snake park.

Day 12: Departure

Pick up at the hotel and you head off to the airport to check in and clear early. Catch up with the flight back home and today brings to an end the 12 days Masai Mara and Kilimanjaro.
