Get ready for a mind-blowing experience on this special 3-day gorilla trek tour in Rwanda. Visit Volcanoes National Park, located in Northwestern Rwanda to enjoy a thrilling mountain gorilla trekking adventure. Spend quality time in the African jungles as you trek in search for the rare mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
Volcanoes National Park is home to about a 3rd of the world’s 1063 mountain gorilla population. A day search for these unique apes will be conducted on already habituated families each allocated to a group of 8 visitors.
The 160sq.km park, established in 1925 also features as research base for the renowned researcher, conservationist and primatologist –the late Dian Fossey who spent over 18 years studying about gorillas. Aside from gorilla trekking, this tailor-made trip also includes Kigali city tours and cultural/community walks in Iby’Iwacu village.
Early in the morning, your private Rwanda tour guide will pick you up from the hotel in Kigali. Before you start any journey, you will be briefed about your gorilla trip in Rwanda. After, set off for a city tour in Kigali and your main area of interest will be exploring Gisozi/Kigali memorial centre to have a deep insight into the 1994 Rwanda genocide. Local markets, King’s palace and other historical sites will be visited, and then you settle for a leisurely lunch.
After lunch, board your 4×4 tourist vehicle ready to embark on 2-3 hours’ drive to the Northwestern side of Rwanda to explore Volcanoes National Park/Parc des National. Arrive early enough and spend the best part of the evening chilling at the hotel as you wait the next day’s adventures.
Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the comfort of your gorilla safari lodge and after, gather at Kinigi for briefing starting at 7:00am. Briefing session shouldn’t be missed since it is during the same time when gorilla families and park guides will be allocated to visitors. The actual trekking to see Rwanda gorillas starts at 8:00am with an experienced park guide on lead.
Depending on some factors, the normal trek may go for 2-6 hours and once you come across gorillas you have 1 hour with these large apes. The one hour involves observing the feeding habits, social behavior of these great apes and taking pictures, etc. After, you will be led back and proceed to your respective lodges for relaxation and get some refreshments.
In the afternoon, exit the lodge for Iby’Iwacu village tour not far from Volcanoes National Park. The community visit will enrich you with authentic African cultural experiences –traditions, cultures, entertainment from locals’ cultural dances and music performances.
You will depart from your respective lodges for Kigali, about 2-3 hours. Arrive early and be dropped off at the hotel in Kigali awaiting the next program or direct to Kigali International Airport (KGL) for departure back home.
