Unlike most gorilla safari packages, the 4 Days Congo trip is distinct because you will be trekking the unique East Lowland Gorillas in the wild. This gorilla tour package takes you up to the lush Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the Eastern edge of the D.R. Congo to enjoy up close and personal with the lowland gorillas.

Kahuzi-Biega is one of the biggest parks in the D.R. Congo and comprised of a dense lowland rainforest plus an afro-montane forest with patches of bamboo and sub-alpine prairies. The 6000sq.km Kahuzi-Biega Park is the only place to visit to trek the endangered Eastern lowland gorillas (the Grauer’s gorillas) while in their natural habitat. Aside from lowland gorilla encounters, you will also have a boat cruise excursions on Lake Kivu.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Airport to hotel in Kigali

Upon landing at the beautiful Kigali International Airport (KGL), your driver guide will have a warm welcome from your driver guide. Have a short brief about this trip and transfer to your pre-booked accommodation within Kigali capital.

Day 2: Transfer to Bukavu from Kigali. Explore Lake Kivu

From Kigali city, you will meet and greet your driver guide then get enlightened about this special gorilla trip. Begin your road trip from the beautiful Kigali city up to Kahuzi-Biega National Park. Connect to Kahuzi-Biega via Cyangugu but en-route, have a stop visit at Nyanza King’s palace, national museum and other sites around Butare.

Have lunch and you will continue with your journey via the scenic Nyungwe Forest NP and later, a short boat ride excursion will be enjoyed on the southern tip of Lake Kivu. The rest of the evening will be had at your lodge in Bukavu or Kamembe town.

Day 3: Trek the Eastern Lowland gorillas in Kahuzi-Biega national park

A hearty breakfast will be enjoyed in the morning and after, set off for briefing about the lowland gorilla trekking. You will be assigned a gorilla group –Mpungwe, Mugaruka, Bonnani, Chimanuka or Nganwa gorilla group families. Depending on your speed of walking and nature of the habitat, expect to take about 2-6 hours in the jungles but this covers an hour for up close and personal with these distinct apes.

Utilize the one hour to take pictures too and later, start walking back to your lodge for relaxation. Have lunch and relax, till in the afternoon when you may opt to visit the Tshibati waterfalls.

Day 4: Depart from Kahuzi-Biega (Bukavu)

A hefty breakfast will be had in the morning and after, begin your journey back to Kigali city. Lunch will be offered en-route and once you have arrived at Kigali, you will be dropped off at the airport.
